Isabella Rosenthal

Isabella Rosenthal is an actual senior who has belonged in E.I.S. since nursery. Besides of being an outstanding student, she participates in any extracurricular activity she can and forms part of different clubs. In the middle of the 9th grade she had to go to live to Tegucigalpa due to her father’s job in the Honduran government. But this event didn’t stop Isabella from being part of a school’s organizations. In Tegucigalpa she studied at the American School of Tegucigalpa and was part of Operation Smile, Charity Club and Hope Club. Isabella has a great concern over the necessities of poor people so she decided to form part of these clubs to learn more about their problems and offer possible solutions. In 10th grade she continued forming of the hope and charity club and joined a new organization, HACIA democracy. While forming part of HACIA she had the chance to travel to Guatemala along with other students to a world-wide conference. Due to her admirable character and commitment, Isabella was also elected as vice president of her class. Isabella returned to E.I.S in 11th grade and kept on with her excellent academic performance and helping spirit. She joined the school’s charity club where she could do the thing she mostly likes, provide help to those who need it. As a senior she became the STUCO historian, which she believes is a completely different experience than what she used to do but is really enjoying it. As a historian she has to keep record of everything that goes on in STUCO. Isabella is a person who always loves to be active and is full of aspirations. Valeria Chahin, one of Isabella’s best friends, expressed, “I have never known a person so devoted to what they do, Isabella has a unique personality who reaches her goals anytime she proposes one.” Isabella is a charming girl. She loves the beach and traveling around the world. She is also willing to take any adventure that is presented to her. Isabella is a very kind and fun girl who likes to take advantage of all the opportunities presented to her.

His name is Alejando Lopez. He has been at EIS since kinder garden and he represents a little piece of the school’s history. He is 17 years old, soon to be 18. Although he is involved many extracurricular activities, he still has time to share with his friends and not only that but can still manage time to be a good student. He helped start organizations like SFO, (Student Fundraiser Organization), JLH, (Jovenes Lideres Hondurenos) and of course STUCO. He ran for 12th grade president and is an active leader in Social Work. Alejandro is a very mature and responsible student who will most likely became one the leaders of this country. His dedication and hard work has made him a complete leader. “If you are not first, then you are last”, Lopez said referring to what a competition towards becoming a stand-out student should be.

Eva Hernandez

There are many awesome students at EIS, but the one I admire the most and I think she is amazing is Eva Hernandez. Eva is amazing because she is a great person; she is a great student and let’s not forget that she is a great friend. Eva is in various school activities such as: MUN and NHS. These are high prestige activities in the school, especially NHS. I don’t know how Eva manages to maintain such excellent grades. I don’t know how does she manage to do all the homework, I mean that I am not in any activity and my grades are not as high as Eva’s. Eva has been in MUN for two year now and in NHS for one year, she has attended EIS since day zero, since we were 4 years old. Eva is part of the MUN traveling team meaning that she is a delegate. I asked Maria Fernanda why she thinks that Eva is an amazing student and she responded: “because she´s dedicated in his studies and puts forth effort in everything she does”. I really admire Eva, she is one of my best friends, and she is one of the best students in school. Eva is a perfect example of a great person and student.

Andrea Garay

Since her early years Andrea Garay loved playing outside with her nursery friends, kicking a ball around a field, running, socializing, singing and laughing. Andrea started her academic studies at the Escuela International of La Lima, where she formally has lived until the date. She enjoyed the time she had with her little friends and always took care of them, no matter what happened Andrea was always there to assist them. She invited her dearest friends for bike rides, dinners, or movie watching for the plain reason to be with them and have fun. As the years passed Andrea never changed her attitude towards the others but developed into being an independent, wise girl with a lot of interested and dreams to fulfill. Andrea loved to paint and be in a variety of sports. Although many may believe that as a student it seems really tough to be in extra curricular activity when you still have tons of homework to do; for her giving up what she liked was not really an option. She instantly started to balance out her busy schedule; never forgetting homework, friends, parties or her hobbies. Her main focus has always been school and making herself and her parents proud of what she does.
Andrea happily graduated from her little school and joined the Escuela International Sampedrana where she started her high school journey. At the beginning the adaptation of the new academic systems seemed almost hard for Andrea to handle but she knew exactly how to deal with stress for these situations and instantly got used to the whole system. In a couple of days Andrea helped those of her friends who needed tutoring on the hard classes. When it came to sports she did not even think twice to join the team and even though she knew about the consequences of being in them she gave it a tried. In months or even weeks the whole school knew about the great sport talent Andrea had within her. She showed everyone that she was capable of being a great basketball, volleyball and even soccer player. Andrea keeps socializing as much as she can even for her tight schedule. She is always there when her friends need her and she always has others to rely on. The first priority she has is school; she has outstanding grades and puts all her effort in order to obtain them. Andrea dreams to join her university dream and succeed on her studies. In a couple of years a dream will be a great person with big dreams and a series of achievements. -LV

Nora Turcios

Nora Alicia Turcios Herrera is a 12th grade student that is about to finish high school, she is eighteen years old. She had been part of EIS since Nursery, when she was four years old. During her studies at EIS, she has always been at the principal’s list, which are the people that get 94% up in their report cards. Norita, as most of her friends call her, is one of the girls that always get outstanding throughout all her participation, or in any other activity outside or in school. Besides, she has a wonderful charisma, always smiling as well as being sweet with everybody. Since a little girl, her favorite sport has been soccer, so she had become part of the team. Since she had part of the institution ever since child, she is known for being an excellent athletic, student, and friend. However, her friends really like her especially because of her positivism, and cheerful personality. At the beginning of the school year, Norita felt bad and she always felt dizzy. She had a health problem and she left school for about one whole month to travel to Washington, D.C., where her hospital was located. The doctors told her that a surgery was vital. Her operation took sixteen hours, almost the entire day. The surgery was delicate, but thanks God it turned out a success! She had to drink thousands of pills and antibiotics so she can improve her health and feel better. Norita had been very strong since all the things that she had been through. She had always been positive and enthusiastic no matter what. It is really inspiring as well as surprising, in the way in which she had improve herself, always keeping moving forward in something so delicate involving her health and she being so young. Although everything she had missed in school, she can manage well her time to get good grades, all A’s! Norita even take AP’s which are the advance classes that not all students take. Her GPA is around 91.5%. Indeed, she is someone astonishing! She left three months later for three weeks, and she catched up with all homeworks, and projects quickly! Omer Cohen

The students at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana are very awesome people. Yet, there are a few of them that are just a little “awesomER.” Such is the case of Omer Cohen, age 17, who is currently a senior at this school. Omer has attended EIS for six years; he transferred from La Lima campus after completing the sixth grade. This student is awesome for many different reasons. To begin with, he is a very amiable person and an exceptional friend. He will most likely help you with anything he can at any time. I admire the way in which he can manage to combine various activities with academics and still achieve good grades. From my personal interactions with Omer, I have found him to be one of the most intelligent people I know, if you don’t believe me, ask him to show you his SAT score. Very impressive.
With every senior struggling with our physics class, Omer uses his knowledge to tutor those of us who are not that ‘physic-ally smart’. Anyway, besides from being a little genius, Omer also has musical inclinations. He loves to play the guitar which he does very well for about a year now. His biggest influences are Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N' Roses and Judas Priest. You might want to visit his Youtube page (http://www.youtube.com/salvadordali66) to get a glimpse of what sorta music he is into. You might recognize Omer from talent shows and pep rallies, as he is also part of the school band. After completing his high school studies, Omer plans travel to Israel, his native country and join the army (good riddance) Hopefully, everything turns out well for Omer. When asked what makes him so special he answered: “I eat more than any other person at this school.” Hmmm who would’ve guessed?
Everyone should definitely get to know Omer and the school could surely use more people like him.

Gustavo Vijil

Gustavo Vijil is a student from eleventh grade that many may consider special. Gustavo have attended our school since nursery and have made a lot of friends through the years he has pass with us. What makes Gustavo so special is not only his ability to make friends very easily but also of his school spirit. He has practice two sports which are basketball and soccer. While playing these sports he tries his best to go forward with his team and encourage them to keep giving their best to make the school look good in tournaments. “Its Gods´ will every match we play but we go out there making our best but at the same time we try to have as much fun as possible,” is one thing that Gustavo said. This shows the positive personality that he has and explains how he is able to have many friends. Gustavo started playing basketball since he was in seventh grade and started soccer in ninth grade. Many people consider him as one of the best athletes that the school has. A proof that there is for how good he is playing basketball and soccer is that he has been a MVP from seventh to eleventh grade. He has also been an MVP player in soccer and the top scorer in eleventh grade. Not only he is a good athlete but he is also very smart and is able to get good grades.

Emery Godoy

Emery Godoy, one of the most outstanding students here ate E.I.S. and also one of my best friends. I have to say I admire here because not only does she have a GPA of 94.5 she also has time for her friends, she participates in NHS, and she has a normal life style. She has a passion towards music and dancing; you can say that Emery doesn´t stress out as most of us, on school work, she is more like a laid back, relaxed person but at the same time a hard worker. Not only is she able to live her life as she pleases, instead she also provides help to others in overcoming their problems, whether they are personal or academic, she is there to help. Emery is also a person very down to earth, she act according to what the consequences of those actions will be and she expects that others due so as well.

Ana Matamoros

Ana Matamoros is in 11th grade have attended about 14 years school, she is so special because she takes AP Biology class which requires a lot of hard work because takes a lot of time to understand things. One of the important things is that in AP’s classes you need to comprehend everything and involve reading a lot, which she enjoys doing. One of the most challenging classes that I would say would be that one. She takes part in extracurricular activities is NHS and Recycling Club which are after school. She does everything she thinks is good for other people and for herself. She enjoys everything hard classes because she takes her own challenges. She took AP Biology this year because she wants to study something combining chemistry and biology; she wanted to see the topics we saw last year in normal biology and more detail this year. She knows each of the subjects very good because she tries to put a lot of attention in class, and do her own homework.. She has being taking AP Biology this whole year, and she is possibly considering taking AP Chemistry. She has learned things she never learned from last year, and have done new experiments in class which all of the AP students have learned a lot. Ana’s hobbies are reading, painting , and drawing.

Carla Bogran

Carla BogrĆ”n, an 18 year-old student at E.I.S, has always been an outstanding person since she was a little girl. She used to say she wanted to be a preschool teacher when she grew up since she has always loved little kids. Instead of playing dolls all afternoon like most girls would do, Carla practiced ballet. Her interest in ballet came when she was six years old; she went to a summer camp of the Royal Academy of Dancing of London for two weeks in Long Beach, California in the summer of her 7th grade, and not to mention that she won a prize between 50 students of all over the world. She even took tests of people who came from London, and got the highest grade in Honors possible, 10/10 for three years straight, and the next two years she got 9/10. Ballet wasn’t the only thing she practiced, she also practiced tap, jazz, african, flamenco and she danced in point shoes for 4 year. She stopped practicing ballet when she was 16 years old.
Carla has been in EILL/EIS all her life. In EILL her grade point average was of 95%, and when she entered EIS her grade point average was from 88% to 90%. Carla has always been a responsible student. At school, she played soccer, that’s how she broke her arm in 5th grade; she also played volleyball until she was in 10th grade. Carla didn’t just play sports, she was also the godmother of her brothers’ baseball team, “I found a picture few days ago, I was wearing a crown and a scarf that entitled me as the godmother, I even got flowers in my hands,” Carla said when she told me about her experience. She has been a part of in school as well as out of school activities throughout her whole life.
Carla’s favorite holidays are Christmas and Halloween. She says Christmas is one of her favorite since she gets to eat amazing food her family makes for this holiday, and for Halloween she just likes to dress-up, “Call me immature, but I still love to dress-up,” she says. Carla has been a joyful and entertaining person all her life, she refers herself as “fun-sized,” since she is 1.50 meters tall since she was in 5th grade.

Cecilia Viara

Cecilia Viara attends 12th grade in Escuela Internacional Sampedrana. She has many activities throughout the day like going to school, playing her favorite sport, soccer, and learning from her Italian origin with her Italian classes. Cecilia has been in E.I.S all her life since nursery and has been part of the school´s soccer team since she was in fifth grade, becoming one of the best soccer players in her team. Even though she has many extracurricular activities like school, homework, Italian classes and spending time with friends she can always find a little time to play some soccer. When she gets her free time you can see her practicing soccer or making sand boxes with sea shells decorations that later on she uses to store her most valuable things. A quote that motivates her throughout the day is ¨live every moment of your life¨ and she stands by it and demonstrates that she loves life and loves living it. As in for her future she plans to become a psychologist and help people throughout their problems

Joaquin Groves

A person who I consider completely amazing at this school is Joaquin Groves. He is a very active student in our school community and participates in a variety of school clubs, activities and groups, “One should have an integral balance in order to succeed in life,” he says. Joaquin plays basketball since the 9th grade and was so good at it, he was asked to not only play in the National’s Team, but he was also the youngest player of the school’s Central American team, positions that all the players, from 9th to 12th grade fight for. After this, he played in all the Nationals, all the Central American games, and even went to Mexico to represent the school in the Latin American basketball tournaments. In his career as basketball player at EIS, Joaquin and his teammates have earned numerous awards and trophies, putting the school’s reputation in the very top. Joaquin Groves is also a member of the school’s Model United Nations (MUN) team. He’s been part of this club since it was available to him in the 10th grade. He has attended several of the global MUN meetings that are held around the continent, specifically to one in Virginia and another one in Baltimore. In Virginia, his team received the “Best Delegation” award, the first trophy E.I.S. had received regarding MUN. In Baltimore, Joaquin proved himself and earned the award of “Best Position Paper”, a merit that more than 1,200 students were competing for.Even though he was born in Honduras, Joaquin has lived in many different places around the globe due to his father’s work. Some of these places include Mexico, Guatemala, Cameroon, and Costa Rica, where his ability to adjust and socialize made it easy for him to feel at home in everyone of these places. Due to his enormous amount of traveling, Joaquin has only attended E.I.S. for 5 years. He entered this school in the 8th grade and has already done as much as anyone who has been a lifetime here.

A Story About Felipe B.

The E.I.S as an international school is enormous, has a great education and is well known. So like all school it has looks of students. Therefore, not each and every one of them got to know each other.
So now I will introduce to you Felipe Bustamante Hernandez and 11th grader. A relic, because he has been in this school all his life. As you know every kid has a special trait. And in this case, Felipe’s special traits are intelligent, outgoing, perseverance, and multi tasks. He can have three tests the next day and has not study anything. He doesn’t stress out, goes out with his friends, play soccer, and all these things he does are just a day before the tests. The awesome thing here is that even though he studies a little he gets good grades on the three tests.
Oftenly, he gets to the house starts playing on the computer and like at 8:00 pm he decides to start with his homework. He spends hours on the phone and he is still able to finish his tasks. He tends to be very responsible and he is great with the numbers (math). He has the ability of understanding all the lessons that the teacher teaches that week. However, he doesn’t participate on any school activity, but we can say he is in Social work activities as all the other 11th graders and 12th graders.
The quote given by Felipe for the school and for you is “Chill, everything can be done.”
So be relaxed like him, everything will end up ok.

Daniela Ferrufino: A Multi Tasker

Daniela Ferrufino has been known around school for her abilities in soccer, but that’s not all Daniela Ferrufino has to offer. She has also been known for having the special gift of dancing tap and flamenco when school is over. Her passion for soccer began since she was around the ages of ten and twelve.
Daniela wasn’t always part of the EIS community, but at the age of nine her family decided to transfer her to EILL, because they believed that this school was going to give her better opportunities for the future. Since she entered EILL, she became a part of the soccer team. Counting back her years since she was little, Daniela has about 8 years of being part of the women soccer team.
Recently she is in twelfth grade, and is now the captain of the team. Her performance throughout the years has made her who she is now, an excellent and extraordinary person, not only in her abilities in soccer but her charisma and joyfulness with her fellow classmates. In school she is known as the girl who never stops smiling, her cheerfulness illuminates every ones day. Her soccer teammates are proud of the captain they have, since in this last tournament she scored several goals that brought the team to first place.
Besides being great in the sports department, Daniela also knows how to make some dance moves. Ever since she was a child, she has always been fascinated by the ladies who appear making dance competition. When she is not in the soccer field practicing for her next game, Daniela could be seen on stage practicing her dance moves for her next performance. Watching Daniela perform is exciting because people get to see the different moves she creates throughout her performance.
Daniela has always kept an open mind when it comes to what people can do. She believes “everyone can achieve their goals if they work hard enough.” People should always go after their goals, even though if they are many.

The City Fashion Show

Lights, music, models, everything was well set up for the Fashion Show to begin. At 7:30 pm the Escuela International Sampedrana’s Cafetorium was packed with people ready to enjoy the show. As soon as the models started to appear, the crowd felt an intense excitement deep inside. The enthusiasm of the people could be seen by the facial expressions they had. The apparel the young men wore was both casual and elegant. While the young ladies decided to have a more sophisticated look adding to their trends some headbands that brought a chick look to their outfits.
The chaos was centered backstage, where everyone was trying to look their best and practice their walk before going into the runway. They had a great advantage, since they had then opportunity to be watching the fashion show backstage. The organization that took place throughout the event was well organized. People were able to find their seats with no difficulties and the lounge seats that were used in the entrance were great for people who were waiting or just chatting around. Those lounge seats also made it easy for people who wanted to buy something to eat, since they could enjoy their food by sitting in those comfortable seats.
After the short interval, a sense of glamour came to the stage. The young men appeared with fashionable and classy tuxedos to accompany the ladies who were wearing glamorous dresses design by famous designer Giselle Matamala. All of the gowns were well elaborated and had a touch of spring, which made the dresses look vivid and colorful.
By the end of the night, everyone was satisfied with how the fashion show resulted. The lights, the music, everything was organized with style. We congratulate Social Work for developing such a great show, but a special recognition for Matilde Turcios (President) and Rodrigo Canahuati (Vice President) for working hared and making sure everything would turnout great.

The Senior Fashion Show is Coming!

(**BUY YOUR TICKETS FROM ANY SENIOR! THEY COST 120 L !)

One of the most exciting events at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana is coming up in just three weeks. On March 14th the Seniors ’09 will be performing with their best looks on the runway. The Senior Fashion Show has been a tradition at E.I.S. since many years ago, but this year it is expected to be better than ever before. Seniors ‘ 09 have chosen “The City” as their fashion show theme, where the decoration will be a mixture of the world’s most stunning cities such as New York, Paris and London. The president of the Senior Social work and planner of the fashion show, Matilde Turcios, has already contacted the best stores of San Pedro Sula to exhibit their clothes. Rouge, Chocolate, Ella, Gant and Hannah Banana will be some of the stores participating in the event. There will also be a special presentation of Sposas and D’ tuxedo, where students will model evening gowns and tuxedos. The Seniors ’09 have to put a lot of effort into this event because last year’s fashion show was spectacular. They had fireworks at the begging and their theme “Nirvana” was truly original. The event was full of surprises that made the public be entertained throughout the whole show. Turcios expressed, “Being better than last year’s seniors will be a hard but not impossible job.” Students have begun to work already. The following week the seniors will start to practice. They will practice for three days in a row, with the help of some runway professionals. With a lot of effort, the students will do a wonderful job. There are very high expectations for the fashion show coming up. It will be very entertaining because everything will vary. This event will take place at the cafetorium of Escuela Internacional Sampedrana, which will be completely transformed for this day. Students have contacted an expert to decorate the cafetorium. The outfits that will be modeled will vary from casual to formal. The music will be a production of a famous Dj, which will add fun to the event. The hosts will be Alejandro Lopez and Isabella Rosenthal, two of the most outgoing seniors. The tickets of “The City” will be started to be sold one week from now. It will be astonishing, don’t miss it!

Ohhh Senioritis!

Everyone at Escuela Internacional Sampedrana is aware of the rapidly spreading plague known as “senioritis.” Teachers and directors fear it and are now running out of ideas on how to combat this epidemic. For those of you who are not familiar with it, senioritis is referred to the overall feeling of doing nothing at all. Early symptoms of the disease include laziness, lack of concentration and difficulty making decisions. Another effect of senioritis is a more relaxed attitude towards class attendance. It is not unusual for graduating seniors to enroll in easy courses, electives with minimal requirements and little effect on a student's overall grade point average. Others with senioritis may decide that a school's attendance policy no longer applies to a student with only weeks to go before graduation. Some colleges, however, have exercised the right to withdraw admission offers to students who fail to demonstrate educational discipline during their final semester as seniors.
By this time of the year, the average, healthy high school senior may have completely succumbed. Senioritis attacks high-achieving, average and struggling students alike. By this time in the school year, most seniors have turned in their applications for college and received their acceptance letters. Many of them reasonably feel entitled to a little break. The rest of the seniors who aren't headed for higher learning may not have figured out what they want to do after graduation, but they are pretty sure that it won't require anything they could possible learn in school. School has become less of a responsibility and has turned into more of a time killer. Seniors now attend school merely to socialize with friends and fool around, especially now that the final fifty day countdown has arrived.
Some of us have the wrong notion that we already have our graduation diploma with us, but sad as it is, a few are in danger of not graduating if they keep on with the slacking off. However, for the rest of us, senioritis has taken over our lives, to the extent that we don’t take anything seriously, except for weekends obviously. Ohh, the weekends!!! I wonder how our grades would turn out to be if we studied as much as we partied. That would make an interesting experiment to perform, but all of us know it just won’t happen. I believe teachers should stop worrying about seniors and just let them be. After all, having endured twelve years at this school calls for a celebration. Nonetheless, not every senior experiences senioritis in its most obvious form, but many do feel bittersweet towards their final days as students. For some, the thought of not seeing their friends on a regular basis causes feelings of depression or nostalgia. Others see the final days of their senior years as an opportunity to settle accounts before they leave their hometowns for distant campuses or careers. Senioritis can trigger some unexpected emotions, as students prepare to close one chapter in their lives and open a new one. In the meantime, or for last fifty days I might say, let the eternal senior motto live: “Senioritis, a day wasted is a day well spent.”

Senior Entrance 2008

The senior entrance is a great tradition held here at EIS since its foundation in 1953. It consists of seniors walking into the school on their first day of classes. Usually seniors come in with fire trucks, police cars, motorcycles, ATV’s and many other attractive vehicles. This year it was really special, all 97 seniors entered the school in different vehicles; the majority of them were on the largest one which was the fire truck. Normally there has not been any trouble with senior entrances, except for last year when some students ruined the grass with their ATV’s but it’s understandable due to the amount of adrenaline and emotions during that day. This demonstrates how responsible and caring EIS students are. Before the senior entrance seniors are used to make a senior party at any of the student’s houses. Usually everybody stays awake until dawn and stay together until the next day which is the first day of classes. There’s a point of reunion for students, sort of a starting point in a race. For the last 20 years it has been in the TEXACO gas station at Zona Viva in front of Edificio Versalles. Recently the location has been changed to the Esso on the Run located right in front of 105 Brigada de Infanteria. Senior entrance is a very important chapter in the book of our life at EIS, it represents the beginning of the final cycle at school. Small kids from school wait for the day they become seniors and get to party hard like we do, enjoy our last year, and specially get the attention and love from everybody. Hopefully this tradition will live on forever and my children will be able to have a senior entrance like me.

School Uniform

The uniform policy is a topic that many may agree and others may dislike. Some of the main issues about the uniform policy are the blue shirts, the white or black shoes, for the men the hair length, and fro the women the policy about the earrings. This uniform also creates a social difference between us and the rest of the society.
The blue shirts are uncomfortable because the cloth itches. You may use a t-shirt inside but it needs to be white or yellow which makes us warm and it isn’t appropriate with the climate we have at Honduras. Opinions may vary because some people might like these shirts. The white or black shoes are the most discussed topic. For us students, it is hard to find shoes of these colors that we really like and would use out of the campus. “This policy is used to represent the school in Honduras but within us it doesn’t matter,” a student said. The hair policy for boys seems unfair for those that don’t like to have their hair so short. Because of having their hair so long they will receive a detention without having a chance to cut it. The girls also dislike the rule of the earrings and make-up. Some of them like to look good for school but they would receive a detention also. Having one of these uniforms creates like an expectation from people that don’t know us put see our uniform. In most cases if we go out with the uniform to a restaurant for example they would either think that we will cause trouble or behave well.
In my opinion the uniform should be changed to a polo and jeans or just come like in color clothe everyday.. Some people may like them or even doesn’t care about these rules because it doesn’t apply to them but for some others this rules or policies seem unfair and unnecessary. Another thing that would cause changing the uniform is that people outside school won’t classify us as a certain type of people.

Long Lines at the Caseta

Here at E.I.S. we have several serious problems and I will take this opportunity to talk about one of them that affects the student body from nine thirty to nine fifty. As you can see our recess only lasts twenty minutes that not enough time when you have three hundred and fifty students buying at the caseta at the same time. Sometimes these lines get so carzy that the bell rings and you haven’t even bought your food or even gotten close to the guy that sells the food and drinks. These people need to create more line because they have already four lines but its obviously still not working. Other times you don’t get to bite your food with you spend your money into and other times you come let to classes because you don’t have a change in recess to go to your locker and get your materials. As you go learning more and more about how big an issue the caseta line and its length is you come to realize that there would be no problem if they could just put some more time into it and you can also see that coming let to class because of recess really affect our student record here at E.I.S. and im still a junior. One day we were buying and my friend Christian that was buying with me commented one day “I have to check a homework with a teacher but I’m so dizzy that I cant even walk straight anymore”. I felt bad for him because the bell rang and he couldn’t eat or check his homework. In my opinion administration should put extra time in recess.

Sports at E.I.S.

Sports at EIS play an important role in a student’s life. Football, basketball and volleyball are the three sports that students practice. The school participates in national as well as international championships. The most recent tournament was the AASCA (American Association of Schools of Central America), which includes all the Central American schools: it took place in Guatemala City. Unfortunately, the boys lost, but they won 4th place. They lost in penalties against American School of Nicaragua, after tying 1-1. It was sad because they seemed champions, since they hadn’t lost any of the four games they had played throughout the competition. However, the girls went to the finals against American School of El Salvador, but a goal was scored when the game was about to finish. A lot of emotions were seen, some people crying, some happy because they knew they had made a great job! EIS hasn’t ever won an AASCA tournament in girls, while the boys had won one two years ago. Many students express that soccer is definitely the best sport! Basketball was the first sport played during the year. The girls won again 2nd place, although the boys won 3rd place. Volleyball will take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Both teams are technically preparing to bring the trophies. For all of the sports, the players practice two hours daily after school. They go everywhere to represent the institution. There is another soccer tournament, Torneo Latinoamericano. This consists of many Latin-American schools. Two years ago, this institute also participated, which took place in Quito, Ecuador. Sports can be a hobby to everyone, but at the same time they might be a key to scholarships. If someone plays well, many opportunities arise. Many students may go to universities outside the country, with full scholarships thanks to any of the three sports. Sports are played at heart by every player.

Living in the Zona

have lived in the Zona Americana of La Lima for my whole life, enough time to know everything there is about it. The Zona Americana is a very safe place, having guards keeping an eye everywhere all the time. La Lima has about everything anyone could possibly need to survive. There’s a huge soccer field, where the older teenagers get together and play soccer all Sunday afternoons. There are two tennis courts, where my friends and I were taught to play when we were about 7 years old. The large swimming pool, where every generation of limeƱos gave their first strokes. The Club, a restaurant where every Friday night there used to be a “Bingo Night,” and all the residents would eat, play, have fun and win! The most distinguishing feature of La Lima is probably its enormous golf course, where people from all around go to play. And last, but not least, The La Lima Campus School, where about one third of EIS’ High School students come from because it only gets to the 8th grade.Being the Zona Americana such a small community, everyone knows each other’s name and everyone is everyone’s friend. This makes the relationship between neighbors becomes very personal. Having so many guards keeping the community safe makes it easy for parents to permit their young children to go bike riding and playing games in the streets with their fellow friends because they know that they are not facing any real harm, they are safe in an ambiance where everyone cares for everyone. This fact is evident especially during Halloween. This celebration counts with the collaboration of many neighbors, those who want to participate, open their house doors, sit on their garage with a bowl full of candies and fill children’s bags when they come up to their doors yelling “trick-o-Treat” in their variety of costumes. La Lima is a very family oriented community where nature plays a huge role. The palm trees are all around the golf course, providing enough breeze and shade to anyone walking or playing golf. The owls hooting and the flying bats provide just the right mood for a creepy story at night. As you can see, such small things like trees, plants and animals, also contribute in making the community feel welcoming.

What's Life Like as a Senior?

How is life as a senior? This is the million dollar question everyone in high school tends to always want to get an answer for. Well let me tell you, that for me a formal senior who has been living the senior life for quite a while now can say that life has a senior is full of surprises. You never know what you can expect all the time, you sometimes get ups and sometimes get lows. Sometimes you get really stress out with all the hard courses, the projects, the homework’s, the making of life decisions. In order words life can get pretty busy but life as senior is all about living the experience to its fullest. Live the special moment until the moment it comes to an end. They are many persons that would like to live this experience but unfortunate they can’t and we can so we need to take advantage of it. When you get to the twelfth grade life gets a little difficult, being a senior means working extra hard. The courses you take become harder but you need to put all your effort on getting good grades that will happily help you on your future acceptance in your dream universities. University is something that will get you all stress up, where are you going to go? What do you want to become? How will you do it? When becoming a senior you need to be prepared on making hard decisions about your future. You need to find time for thinking and reflecting. But don’t get me wrong and freak out life as a senior is not that boring and stressful as I may make it sound. As a senior you get to live really cool experiences. You get to party, become legal, hangout with your friends and experience together activities with your friends with whom you have share nice memories. Your friendships as seniors become a stronger bond among others because you know that in a shorter time you won’t get to see your classmate’s everyday as you used to. Senior life leaves your life with experiences you will never get to live again and you will cherish for the rest of your life. As a senior you get to learn about making big decisions and how to handle a series of moments all together. As a senior you need to be prepared for everything that comes in your way. All you need to do is be strong and breathe when there is a moment when you have to take big decisions. Life as a senior is an experiences you should live to the fullest and it is a experience you will never regret.

Summer Vacations

Summer vacations are the biggest vacations any student is waiting for during his or her years as a student. Throughout the year all students work hard to achieve their goals. The main goal for a student in general is passing to the next grade and enjoys to the maximum their summer vacations. During summer vacations people travel with their friends or family members to a variety of places and have a lot of fun. Most of the students travel to other countries in search of having well with their families. I think that the countries visited the most are for example United States, Spain, France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, and some others. People also stay in Honduras to enjoy their vacations here. Honduras has many interesting places to visit during summer vacations as well. Some places for example are Tela, Roatan, Omoa, Ceiba, and many other tourist places. In my opinion I prefer to travel to other countries instead of staying at Honduras because you have the opportunity to know new places and learn a little bit more of the country and have a lot of fun going shopping and entertainment too. During summer vacations most people use their time to hang around and have a lot of fun with their friends. Vacations is the best time for anyone who likes to enjoy without stopping and making things that will mark their life’s in the future. Summer vacations are the longest vacations for a student; they last for two and a half of month. Although summer vacations are good, sometimes they are dangerous because people abuse of having fun. Sometimes people get sick or even are involved in car or any type of accidents. People can try to avoid those types of consequences by just having fun without abusing. Enjoy your life without making things that later on will affect you in any way. In conclusion summer vacations have good and bad times; it just depends on how you try to live your life. One E.I.S. student said, “I think summer vacations are the best part of the school year because that is the only time where I can take all the stress away and relax.” Summer vacations are the best vacations for all the school year for any student.

Euthanasia

For those who do not know, Euthanasia is when a doctor ends a patient’s life in a painless way. Euthanasia comes from the Greek “eu” and “thanatos”. “Eu” means good and “thanatos” means death. So Euthanasia means good death, painless death. Euthanasia is practiced in many cases around the world. A scenario is when a patient is in a coma; and his or hers possibilities from waking up from the coma are minimum; instead of suffering a horrible death the doctor, with his or hers family’s consent can practice Euthanasia and end the suffering patient’s life with no pain. Some people think debate whether or not should we practice euthanasia. Many people are not in favor of Euthanasia and argument that Euthanasia is a gateway to legalizing murder. The fact is that many countries all ready have legalized Euthanasia. Some of those countries Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. These countries are fine with Euthanasia. I personally think Euthanasia is morally acceptable and that we should do it. It should be legal in every country of the world. There is a key term in philosophy that is Autonomy. Autonomy means that a person has the choice to do whatever he likes with his life. So a person has the right, the free will, to do whatever he likes. If the patient wants to end his life, instead of suffering a horrible death, instead of his family members suffering and living in depression, instead of wasting a lot of money, instead of occupying a room in a hospital that can be used by someone who have chances to get better, the patient can terminate his life and a painless way. Euthanasia should be legal in every country of the world. We can prevent suffering of patients and family members by legalizing euthanasia and having the option for patients that have a fatal disease and have minimum chances of living.

Semana Santa

Semana Santa, the week before Easter, is marked by Honduran holidays. Few Hondurans work on the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before Easter Sunday, and there are Honduras festivals across the nation to mark the holy week. As the second and third bimester comes to an end, what almost every student tries to focus are their plans for Semana Santa, our own spring break. Semana Santa is a religious tradition, but nowadays people just use it as an excuse to forget all the problems and leave out the stress that life itself may bring.
The beach is the favorite spot for people to relax and enjoy the week. Roatan, Tela and Cortes are the hot spots where not only teens but entire families assist and try to have a good time. Pleasant locations and luxuries hotels prepare themselves with months of anticipation to receive the hundredths of locals and tourist that every year comes to the beach or any other places to forget for a week every responsibility at work and avoid the stress.
One important thing is the lack of responsibilities most adults tend to have problems with. Many people exceed while having fun and drinking excessively causing many problems which affect not only themselves and their families, but also third parties. The police officers do their best labor trying to avoid drunk driving and irresponsible behavior. Another cause of many incidents is at pools or beaches, leading to accidents referring drowning. This is also concerning the poorly behavior during the father’s watch, who don’t worry about their kid’s safety. As in what I’m concern, I believe Semana Santa is a time to enjoy quietly also respecting the religious believes. It is not a time to have too much fun, because of the danger and problems it may cause.

Senior Skip Days

As a senior of the Escuela Internacional Sampedrana, we have had only one skip this year on January. As a group we decided to go to Cortes since it was a sunny day and we could have fun in the beach. As a group of seniors we have never had fun like that memorable day in Cortes. Spending time with our friends at the beach was a day that will always be remembered and never going to be forgotten. Everyone was dancing, swimming, eating, and enjoying the skip day. The good thing about the trip is that everyone was united like never before. Being a senior is not easy, since it is our last year at school with our friends and teachers that we had known for a long time. Leaving our friends, family, school, and home is not easy to do. This is why we have decided to go to Cortes since it could be our last time together as a whole group. The goal for the skip day was to have fun, but especially the purpose was to establish a better relationship among every person that was part of the seniors 2009 of the Escuela Internacional Sampedrana.
On April we are planning to have another skip day since our last days of school are approaching. Personally it is very important to stay together as a group because these days are never coming back. Our next senior skip day will be like the one we had on January or even better since it would be very difficult to have a better one than the first and only that we have had. It is not that important to have a good time, but it is very important to stay together and remember those days that we have lived together. We have already talked to all the seniors about our next skip day that will take place n April of 2009. The only problem about our next skip day is that we are not sure where to go since every senior has different options about the places that we can go. Our first skip day was full of happiness and memories that we will never forget. Also most of the seniors were sad and were not having a good time since it was very difficult for them to believe that we were never going to be all together. The seniors of the Escuela Inetrnacional Sampedrana will never forget the great times that they had together and will always be remembered by every one of them.

Edline: Good or Bad?

What is edline? This question can be very well answered by students at EIS. In case you don’t (which I really doubt) edline is a webpage used by teachers to post grades and for students to see their progress in their classes.the main question in this article is: is edline good or bad? Well, edline has a good and a bad side. A negative effect that edline has is that students get grounded but this has a positive effect because that way if you see that you are doing bad in a class you worry about it
“It is bad because parents ground us constantly” a student commented. Thinking about if he is right about it but on the other hand would parents ground students if they were responsible enough to have good grades. In my opinion edline is the worst webpage in the history of internet. In eleventh grade classes become heavier and with more difficulty, it is very hard to maintain a good average, but the worst part of it is that teachers normally post grades on Fridays meaning students are grounded on their most sacred days: the weekends.
Edline can be used to see our grades and if we are doing bad this only means we are going to be grounded. Edline should consider that students need their weekends to stay alive. Edline could be used to students to be worried, not parents.

Students at E.I.S

In E.I.S, students tend to be everywhere, jumping around, talking, hanging out, and having fun. However, when the bell rings they have to chill out and be preparing for class. Minds have to change to responsibility and working time.
At E.I.S you can find many types of students, calm, others that are running around and talking, others that are polite or disrespectful some that are pacific, they don’t want to get in any trouble. And finally others that like to get in messy stuff. However, they all have something special. They are very social, enthusiastic, encouraging and love break. But who won’t love break? Everybody loves that part in school. A great time to rest, have fun, spend time with friends, enjoying. However, you can’t forget student’s attitude toward afterschool bell. They are quickly out of class, yelling and getting their book bags ready to go with their parents. Well, some getting ready for a party or some special trip. Students can’t wait to get home and rest. Doing what they like the most, could be watching TV, sleeping, spending time with the telephone and other interesting activities.
However, some people say, “School, a great place to be in, however, we want to leave soon and rest.” These students are great people to hang out with, they are social and interesting. You can enjoy a great time with them.

Senior Privileges

Some of the most amazing things in high school of becoming a Senior are the Senior privileges. Seniors get to be “more special” per say and get to do things younger ones couldn’t do. But, in Honduras, at E.I.S. I haven’t seen any Senior privileges been applied to us, oh sorry, just the one that we get to wear our Senior shirt on Fridays, that’s a bog one. We have skid days too I forgot, which are pretty amazing because we are practically getting excused from skipping classes. Some other privileges we have is the use of iPods during class, but we really don’t count that one as a privilege, since most teachers don’t mind people using iPods, the privilege needs to be only for us, call us egoists, but its part of the wonders of being a senior. If getting away with things easily is a privilege, well count that in for us since we get away with many punished from teachers and stuff, they already know about or Senioritis. Some privileges we could have is maybe to eat during class as long as we clean up after ourselves. Also, they could let us come tardy to class, I am not saying 30 minutes late, but a rational time spam. “I would love to have a certain amount of exceptions in tests” said a friend of mine. There are many more, one day a week come in color clothe, let us buy food from fast food restaurants during recess or lunch, etc. “ It will be good to end the year and say :’wow I had great Senior privileges’” said Gaby a close friend. One privilege that would top off any other privilege is a fun week before graduating. This fun week consists of coming to class just to report yourself and then going off having some fun activity, like going to Wonderland water park, or going to eat somewhere all together, this would be a good activity to bond with each other and be more tranquil when the times comes to graduate, we are all going to be more relaxed and end the year creating bonds with all of our classmates. Let’s be honest, we are leaving in less than 4 months, why don’t they cut us some slack, we’ll be going in no time, and teachers aren’t going to have to deal with us.

Tuesday Activity Period

At EIS, every last period on Tuesday, we have an activity period, as the name says it, this is a full 65 minute period in which all students enjoy different clubs. We, as students are happy about the decision of having clubs every Tuesday last period. There are many clubs in which every single high school student signed-up, we had many options to choose from such as yoga, dance class, gymnastics, ping pong, poetry, chess, history of rock and roll, guitar hero, art, music and some other clubs. Sometimes we don’t have clubs, we have short schedules, this means we get out of school early and don’t have our last period, however this is only the last Tuesday of the month, in the other hand sometimes we have peprally’s, which are really fun. “I think activity period is a great idea, since we can have times to hung up with our friends and learn other fun stuff.”, a student commented. Some clubs such as drama club, go beyond school hours. They are preparing the musical Wicked, hopefully this will give a great results, also clubs as yoga are really relaxing because in this hour people have time to get rid of all school stress and have time to relax and chill. Sometimes in this periods we have conferences, which are really interesting, once we had a conference about HIV and aids, this impacted in a lot of EIS students. Although some people do not take seriously this clubs or some think they are boring, clubs are a good opportunity to make new friends and have a good opportunity to make new friends and have a good, fun and relaxing time with our friends and other students at EIS.

After School Activities

There are tons of activities to do afterschool. Afterschool is considered the best part of the normal school day, obviously after comes lunch. An example of an activity to do afterschool is to join the chess club. In this club you get together with some friends and concentrate on finding new strategies for the game itself. This club gets together from two to three pm every 3 days a week. Other types of clubs you can join are for example MUN (Model United Nations), in this club you get together to discuss social problems that affect different countries in the world. It is cool cause you get to know everything about the country you are assigned.
Other types of activates to do afterschool is to join a sport. There are a great variety of sports you can join at EIS. For example: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Ultimate Frisbee. ‘’Afterschool is synonym to fun’," said an E.I.S. student

Electives

In EIS, students from the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade can choose and elective for the whole year. In electives students can share a different experience by receiving another type of subjects like study skills, music, art, economics, French, yearbook, college preparation, creative writing, and media. Tenth graders can choose from only some electives such as: study skills, music, art, economics, and French. Eleventh and twelfth graders can choose the same electives, but something different compared to the tenth elective class. These electives are: yearbook, economics (advanced in you already took that subject in tenth or eleventh), art, music, college prep, creative writing, French, and media (advanced if you already took that subject in eleventh). All the students receive elective class three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I asked a student what she/he thought about elective class and she told me, “Yearbook is a good class; it is entertaining to have it as an elective because we learn new things and making the yearbook should be fun”. I think that it this person is recommending yearbook as an elective class, I people should consider this option. It is good for students to have an elective class because students should learn other things besides the general subjects. Elective may be fun, but it doesn’t mean you will not work because you will. The elective class is for having fun and it is made for students to learn new things that may help may help you out in the future.

Getting Ready for Senior Year

Everybody is really nervous about next year; it’s our last year in high school turning into seniors. We are hoping it will be a great year; we are excited that we are going to college and have fun. People expect to have a lot of parties and enjoy the last year all together, since we are going to different colleges. The senior entrance what makes us different to the other past years. Most of us are worried because we don’t know what are we going to study since some of us don’t even know if we are going to study outside, or what are we going to do in the future. In addition, we have to get a good GPA because that’s the only way we can get into a good college. Next year is supposed to be greatest year of our life. We are going to have more privileges that the past years; we are going to have more opportunities for other thing to.
Also, we are going to complete our last years of social work. Skip days are going to be very memorable for all of us. We hope for it to be a successful year for all of us. Sometimes we don’t realize when tome is flying, before I told myself I want to get out of school for ever, know that I see myself all grown up , I don’t want to leave school because I’m going to miss it a lot. School and college are very different because rules change and we are going to wear color cloth each day for the rest of our life.
