Sports at E.I.S.

Sports at EIS play an important role in a student’s life. Football, basketball and volleyball are the three sports that students practice. The school participates in national as well as international championships. The most recent tournament was the AASCA (American Association of Schools of Central America), which includes all the Central American schools: it took place in Guatemala City. Unfortunately, the boys lost, but they won 4th place. They lost in penalties against American School of Nicaragua, after tying 1-1. It was sad because they seemed champions, since they hadn’t lost any of the four games they had played throughout the competition. However, the girls went to the finals against American School of El Salvador, but a goal was scored when the game was about to finish. A lot of emotions were seen, some people crying, some happy because they knew they had made a great job! EIS hasn’t ever won an AASCA tournament in girls, while the boys had won one two years ago. Many students express that soccer is definitely the best sport! Basketball was the first sport played during the year. The girls won again 2nd place, although the boys won 3rd place. Volleyball will take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Both teams are technically preparing to bring the trophies. For all of the sports, the players practice two hours daily after school. They go everywhere to represent the institution. There is another soccer tournament, Torneo Latinoamericano. This consists of many Latin-American schools. Two years ago, this institute also participated, which took place in Quito, Ecuador. Sports can be a hobby to everyone, but at the same time they might be a key to scholarships. If someone plays well, many opportunities arise. Many students may go to universities outside the country, with full scholarships thanks to any of the three sports. Sports are played at heart by every player.
